CHARGING AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Alternating Current (AC) Charging

  • Evoy’s World Leading (Patent Pending) AC Charging can charge on ANY AC outlet up to 125 Amp – 400 VAC – 3 phase. Comes standard with Evoy.
  • Charge time from 30m to +24h depending on AC outlet and pack size

Direct Current (DC) Charging

  • Fast and Supercharging with CCS plug towards DC chargers onshore
  • Capacity up to 300 kW if DC shore charger can support
  • Charge times from 10 m to 1h depending on charger and pack size

Infrastructure

  • Evoy are working on Supercharging network for primary marked areas with up to 300 kW capacity. First charger to be deployed in 2020. More info later.
  • Most Commercial Ports have between 50 and 150 Amp – 400/230 VAC – 3 Phase available – making charging down to 1 hour possible with Evoy System
  • Most marinas and boat spots have 10 or 16 Amp – 230 VDC – 1 phase available – making charging in less than 24 hr possible – depending on battery and SOC.
  • Evoy can deliver shore DC chargers for customers that want faster charging.
  • Evoy can deliver battery banks where grid is to weak for supercharging.

COMPATABILITY

The motor can be software adjusted and/or limited to fit any propulsion through the controller.

Evoy Team have the competence to mechanically adjust and fit the system to any propulsion, new or used.

BOATS FOR EVOY SYSTEMS

  • Evoy turn-key full-electric propulsion system can be installed in new or used boats
  • The powerful Evoy inboard system har its sweet spot in planning hull boats between 25 and 30 fot (7,5 to 9 meters), but boat between 20 and 35 can also work very well.

COST SAVING

The cost saving varies greatly with geography and usage. In Norway the savings are typically between 60 and 80 % from lower cost of use and maintenance. In addition one saves time and resources on very much longer maintenance intervals and less time for fuelling.

Due to significant lower cost of use and maintenance an Evoy system typical saves a commercial boat owner between 3 and 5 million NOK over its lifetime. The same owner will typically have an ROI of 5 years with the Enova Support or 10 without.

"TAKE-ME-HOME"

Evoy smart management system is set-up so that the system itself reduces power output when below set threshold. This Threshold is dynamic and paired with the battery management system. That mean that dependant on temperature and power consumption in your boat the system will start reducing power when there is between 10 to 15 % left on the batteries. With 10 % left there is still 5 % usable energy down to the bottom block that is 5 kWh. These 5 % will give you everything from 1 to 10 nm range depending on chosen “Take-me-home” speed.

Emergency Mode

If the boat user for some reason have come in a position where the whole “Take-me-home” 5 to 10 % are used, and still not have reached safe harbour, the user can choose to also use from the 5 kWh software restricted block in the bottom. This is activated by pressing the “Emergency Mode” and accepting the “Warning! Running battery lower than 5 kWh can significantly reduce battery lifetime.”

RANGE INBOARD

Rule of thumb for planing hull boats with inboards are that when you replace the inboard motor and fuel tank with full-electric propulsions system you achive between 20 and 30 nm range in planing hull speed. This is naturally extremely dependant on the boat and the batteries chosen but gives a ballpark indication.

Boats have very little resistance when traveling at a lower speed. This means that if you ever are in the danger of running low on energy when running at a plane hull speed, you can simple reduce the speed to below hull speed (typically 4 – 6 knots) and quadruple your range (or more). Thereby, range anxiety in eboats is less of an issue compared to electric land transport.

CO2 SAVINGS

CO2 savings depends on grid footprint and usage. For normal commercial boats in Norway with about 500 hours use per year the saving are about 40 metric tonnes of CO2 pr. Year. That is the equivalent of around 20 average cars from the same country. Production footprint og battery and system is estimated to be around 10 ton CO2, so this is saved back after about 3 months of use.

MAINTENANCE

Electric systems really don’t have many things that needs service, but there is a few points.

  • Chosen propulsion like sterndrive or waterjet follows their normal service routine.
  • Motor bearing check at 15.000 hours. Check done by Evoy Approved Service place.
  • Offer anode inn Heat-exchanger should be changes every second year. User can do the service them self or book an appointment at Evoy Approved Service place.
  • Coolant liquid for battery and motor/drive should be changed every second year. User can do the service them self or book an appointment at Evoy Approved Service place.
  • Unexpected malfunctions will usually be notified from the Evoy Smart Management system. Evoy Service Team secures swift and high-quality follow up.

PORT CHARGING

Evoy’s first DC Supercharging (+150 kW) will be available in Florø Q2 2020

2021 – Start of Evoy rollout of supercharger network

Evoy’s small 125 Amp / 400 VAC / 3Phase onboard charger will give all Evoy boats the possibility for fast charging in port with close to 100 kw.

All Evoy systems will be delivered ready for DC Supercharging at 300 kW.

  • I.e. 120 kW system can be charged from 10 to 90 % in less than 30m.

ENOVA SUPPORT

Enova supports commercial crafts with more than 100.000 kW use /25 tonn CO2 emissions with up to 50 % of additional cost. Typically, a boat needs more than 300 – 400 hours use a year to get over the set threshold. In addition to support for the system itself there is also up to 40 % support for infrastructure and project costs. Evoy can help with Enova application and submission.
